Dr Malcolm Hawthorne

Dr Malcolm Hawthorne is a distinguished consultant psychiatrist with a career spanning over 30 years. Practising across Berkshire and Surrey, Dr Hawthorne's special clinical interest is in the treatment of patients experiencing complex grief and psychiatric problems related to surgical procedures, chronic pain and trauma, but he is highly experienced in the management of all general psychiatric conditions including depression/anxietybipolar disorder, and psychotic disorders.

Originally qualifying from the University of Oxford, Dr Hawthorne completed specialist training at St George's Hospital London, one of the top university teaching hospitals in the UK. In 1993 he was appointed Consultant in Adult Psychiatry at Frimley Park Hospital, where he established the Department of Psychological Medicine and was responsible for the teaching of psychiatric trainees. From 2006 to 2012 Dr Hawthorne was Medical Director of Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, appointed in recognition of his outstanding record in high-quality service delivery and coordination. 

Dr Hawthorne is well-regarded for his ability to illustrate psychiatric concepts with examples from popular film and literature, and for his excellent working relationships with patients and colleagues. Drawing on the latest psychological and biological treatments, as well as the active support of family and carers, Dr Hawthorne is committed to delivering integrated, personalised psychiatric care - while recognising the potential each individual has to shape their own recovery.
